This Genius Created A Fake Emerald Ring For His Demanding Girlfriend

For those who are looking for an engagement ring on a budget, take note. 

A man in China whose girlfriend was nagging him for a diamond ring decided to take matters into his own hands, making her a jewel from a beer bottle, according to Chinese media.

Reports said he used tools to make a convincing gem and created a ring out of it.

After his girl friend demanded for a big diamond, the unnamed man decided to create her a ring made from a green beer bottle to try and fool her that it was an actual emerald, according Huanqiu, an affiliation with the People's Daily Online.

Pictures posted online show the man's efforts and the process he used to make the piece of jewellery. 

He cut the bottom from the beer bottle and sanded it down into a gemstone shape before attaching it to the ring. 

It's been reported that the ring was for the man's girlfriend.

However, there are other claims saying the man was just doing his school project.

A woman, who claimed to be a schoolmate of the man in question, told MailOnline that the maker is a student from Shaanxi Fashion Engineering University.

She said the man wasn't making the fake jewel for his girlfriend, instead it was to improve his jewellery making skills.

His final product was highly praised by his school teacher, the woman added.

Nevertheless, pictures of the process of making the ring have been widely shared on China's social media and intrigued many users.

One account on Weibo under the name 'normal people do not do this kind of thing' has shared the photos, which have received more than 10,000 shares and nearly 9,000 comments as of writing.

One user commented: 'It is not a precious stone, but it is a beautiful stone.' 

While another wrote: 'What a colour for a gem.' 

A third user said: 'I feel it looks better than a real diamond.'
